In a bold move to align with Congo-Brazzaville’s ambition of significantly increasing oil production by 2030, independent oil and gas operator Perenco has launched a pivotal infrastructure project. The company is investing $200 million into the construction of a new offshore production platform Kombi 2 a strategic asset that underscores its long-term commitment to the region’s energy future.
The Kombi 2 platform is currently being built at the Nieuwdorp shipyard in the Netherlands by Perenco’s affiliated engineering firm, Dixstone. Once completed, the facility will facilitate production from the Kombi-Likalala-Libondo II (KLL II) permit, one of the key fields driving future output.
Perenco confirmed that the platform is scheduled to depart Europe in October 2025, with operations expected to commence in early 2026. This project represents a vital component of Congo-Brazzaville’s upstream development agenda and showcases how infrastructure investment can serve as a catalyst for unlocking untapped reserves across the Gulf of Guinea.
As the nation accelerates efforts to transition its oil and gas policy from planning to production, the Kombi 2 development stands out as a flagship initiative merging technical expertise with strategic vision to power sustainable growth in Africa’s offshore energy landscape.
